Today has been a lot of fun. Paul put Happy Birthday signs in my car and on my desktop, so that was a neat surprise this morning. I tutored some students in math for 2 hours this morning starting at 10AM, not too early. ;) Then, I came home.. telling myself I needed to clean up the house for our guest tomorrow, but I have yet to do that. I've been sitting on the couch watching tv all day with Friskie curled up in my lap! Wow! So busy! ;) It's been great! Watching the most brainless stuff.. Sister-sister, MTV, and Little House on the Prairie.. What a mature choice of TV shows. I haven't read a single news story today and it has been so nice.. except for something about Obama not wanting war in Iraq and McCain planning for war in Afghanatan.. but I just read the headlines! Doesn't seem like anything new to me.
Just a few minutes ago I got a really pretty basket of Chocolate covered fruit delieved to my house from my mom, dad, and John! I've been devouring that. :) Friskie also enjoyed the present, especially the colorful ribbon that came with it.
Friskie thought it tasted good.
Soon after getting the fruit basket present, something from Ivy, Iza, Irek, and Olivia showed up at the door! :) Some really beautiful flowers. I really like the vase they came in too! Thank you so much!!!

Hey, Holly!
So glad you had a great birthday! What a nice start to the day from Paul! :) And good to treat yourself to some relaxation on your birthday! Nice presents! Pretty flowers! Even Friskie got a present! ;)
Thanks for the anniversary wishes! :) My stomach's much improved today, oh, I hope it keeps up! I'm very tired though so am heading back to bed soon...
I taught third grade, all the basic liberal arts subjects (Bible, Math, Spelling, Grammar, Reading, Science, Geography, History) to a small Christian school class.
To prepare I familiarized myself with the curriculum, worked out roughly how many pages a day I'd need to cover, and wrote lesson plans in my first week's schedule when I got it.
I had training too. It felt a bit overwhelming at first, even though it was Classical Christian School training, because there were so many ideas flung at me in a short space of time, but I just weeded out the ideas that were good for my situation with a small class!
I felt nervous too, especially as some subjects required a lot of work (Grammar and Spelling, which were taught in a excellent way but required lots of preparing!!).
The good thing for you is that you teach one subject. Get some good basic ideas on how to teach it, but many things become clearer after you've actually met the students and seen the classrooms, etc.! I would use the first few weeks as "warm-up" if you can; i.e., maybe not do as many pages but get used to the schedule and get the kids (and yourself!) warmed up by gradually increasing the work.
Hope that helps some!!! You'll do great, Holly! God will lead you every step of the way! Just take it one step & one day at a time!
Love you,
Mary
