This blog was going to be all about self pity. Complaining about all that I had to do which is a lot: work, all day job fair and interviews on Saturday, work, work, exam, presentations, final website due (1 professional website with 5 sites within), presentation, paper due, 2 papers due same class, presentation, debate, group meetings, group meetings another class, neuroscience homework, work, multiple articles to read, web assignment, and 2 take home finals (which are due on the day we have our 4th test-never had this before?). All this must get done within the next 2 weeks, but I am not freaking out anymore. It will get done! :)
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Sometimes, you just need to be reminded of that. Take a deep breathe. Most of the stress is my fault anyways, I am working 2 jobs and going to school full time. Not the brightest thing to do, so I can't complain. How can I when my poor hubby works 100hour work weeks, but still has a positive attitude about work and still enjoys it! I wish I had that motivation! He even mowed the grass when he got home fairly early on Tuesday. It has grown a great deal since then.
Funny how I am taking an elective about motivation this semester and it hasn't help, nor has it really defined motivation. Theorist desperately try to explain motivation, but they can't explain why some people have more than others. The best they can come up with is that motivation is force that directs behavior. I guess the force isn't with me! lol I think someone who likes Star Wars came up with that definition.
Ok.. this blog will be turning to food soon. *stomach grumbles* I will try to keep up with everyones' blog over the next 2 weeks. I must go find some dinner to eat! ;) I am hungry.... To make something or go for a Sonics burger and fries... so tempting? Yummy salty fries.. with a cheese burger.. Yum! ... must resist...

Holly, you're so funny, you had me laughing by the end of your blog!! :)
Boy you have a lot of work to do. I remember feeling overwhelmed when I was taking 24 hours one semester (though I wasn't working at the same time!), but eventually I got through it. A key was to rest and eat, as you said... which, um, I wasn't good at in college.
Take breaks too - even just small ones! I wish I'd followed all this advice more - my brain felt so much more refreshed even after a little rest/break!! You end up being more productive when you do work in short bursts with breaks every 30 minutes or so.
Could you drop one of your jobs? What are they?
Maybe you don't have motivation because you've got too much on you & you're too tired? I have a drop in motivation often when I'm tired. Also it helps motivation when I do things in shorter bursts of time, even shifting from one thing to another, like: house-cleaning for 15 minutes, reading with the kids for 15 minutes, tidying for 15, computer for 10, gardening for 30, back to house cleaning, you get the idea - variety and breaks! I use the timer a lot & that's fun! I'm finally learning all this! I get things done so much faster and then when I see things getting done I feel satisfied and even more motivation! Like a spiral upwards.
Also, make sure whatever career you're pursuing, you really like and can get excited about and enjoy! Paul LIKES accounting (he's strange that way ;) so that helps a lot with motivation!
House cleaning isn't my favorite thing, but I still enjoy it if I do it in small bites of time, and I actually get more done overall. Funny how that works! But I do enjoy gardening, homeschooling & tidying for their own sakes.
And, yes, seeking strength in Christ is so key as well. My days are so often better when I do devotions right at the beginning and pray that God will bless my work that day.
Anyway, that's enough rambling from me right now! I hope you have a great day!
Thanks for your comment, Holly! Sorry, maybe that was confusing about the tickets. The Stena tickets are for the England holiday the last two weeks in June (that I mentioned earlier in the post). The cottage is a "self-catering" cottage which is like our own little house for the 2 weeks! I love it! It's really pretty, inside a beautiful, refurbished coach house on the property of a Georgian mansion! There is a beautiful garden right outside the door with hedges and lots of flowers outside our door and also tennis courts! We are amazed at the price for all that & so excited!!!
The appointment went great, Dr. Huda is really pleased with my progress & wants me to stay on the same level of meds for now. She doesn't want to see me for 3 months!
It has to become a habit to go to bed early. But to be honest we are very motivated by the fact that Tim needs to get out the door by about 7:20 every day to go to work. So we have to go to bed early to get enough sleep. I know that it makes a huge difference to my health when I am consistent with this!
Lots of love,
Mary
HI Holly, You are a riot!!! I love reading your blog! I have to repeat that to myself in Poland about Christ strengthing all of the time. I also have to repeat all things work together for good to them that love him, over and over and over again! haha
Another saying I like.... if it is to be, it's up to me.
Hang in there this last semester my lovely sister!!!
I think motivation works differently from person to person. Just because someone is tired or the task they are doing is hard and/or takes longer to do, doesn't mean they aren't as motivated as the super-efficient multi-tasker. There is a difference in how motivation exhibits itself in right-brained and left-brained people and where their passions are.
Elisa
You can't tell me you're not motivated with two jobs, finishing a degree, and a social life. I'm pretty blown away by all that you're doing. You are amazing, Holly!
You are doing so much for a great cause. You are passionate about something to the degree that you are willing to work extremely hard and long at things that must be done (that you don't necessarily like) in order to accomplish that goal and do what you are passionate about.
I think motivation is linked to passion and organization. We tend to be organized with the things that drive us, that we care about. Sometimes you get the hard things done as fast and efficiently as possible, so you can get to doing the things that you love, too. Sometimes the only thing that is organized in your life is the thing that you're passionate about. Then again, we're back to right-brain/left-brain phenomenon, which may also deal with one's gifts. Perseverance is thrown into that mix as well.
The other thing that has a major effect on one's motivation is their world view. If they are Christ-centered, their greater reason, that drives their passions, is that desire to glorify God. Some people can blow through difficult tasks and move on, while others roll up their sleeves and settle in for the long haul. The motivation is the same, the goal is the same, the Helper is the same. How they get it accomplished depends on the functioning of their brain, talents, and spiritual gifts that God gave them.
Oops! I tried to sign the response I just wrote, and I put it in the middle of the thing. Sorry!
Love,
Your very right-brained friend,
who can't remember her password and user name so she uses her husband's whose she CAN remember,
Elisa
